The actress then posted two subsequent videos of herself on her Instagram account talking about the reasons of ‘Faking her own death’ and the result caused by it. She also apologized to anyone troubled by this bold act of hers, calling it a “Necessary Intervention”.
Poonam Pandey is a well-known Bollywood actress and model with her famous works in Nasha and Fear Factor. She is an online influencer with over a million followers on Instagram and Twitter.

This was supposedly posted by her team which stated: “This Morning is a tough one for us. Deeply saddened to inform that we have lost our beloved Poonam to CERVICAL CANCER…” This sudden news spread a nationwide controversy on whether Poonam Pandey is Really Dead. ‘#PoonamPandey’ became the most trending topic on Twitter in India.
Following the news of her supposed demise, many celebrities shared an RIP post on social media remembering the star and her works. Many news channels and handles posted their regards and claimed confirming the news from her family members. Google officially recorded her death date as 1st Feb 2024 on her official Wikipedia information page.
However, no evidence of Poonam Pandey suffering from Cervical Cancer or any news of her last rituals were received.
This caused some of her fans to be in denial of this news stating her being completely healthy a few days ago and posting glamourous pictures. It was also stated that Poonam Pandey performed an interview a few days ago speculating ‘Giving a Big Surprise…’
These rumors, speculations, theories and uncertainties gave a way in trending the news of Poonam Pandey’s death due to CERVICAL CANCER.
Poonam Pandey then herself ended these uncertainties by releasing few videos and posts of herself being alive and well and stating her motives and intentions.
“One Celebrities’ death has got the whole nation talking about Cervical Cancer…”, said the star in her latest Instagram post. Her motive for faking her own death was simple and clear – spreading awareness regarding Cervical Cancer.
Cervical Cancer is a Cancer arising from the Cervix due to HPV Infection. Unlike other cancers, Cervical Cancer is curable if treated properly and within proper time frame and care.
On Feb 1, 2024, The Finance Minister of India, while presenting the budget for the year 2024-2025 stated,
“…Our Government will encourage vaccination for girls in the age group of 9 to 14 years to prevent Cervical Cancer…”
This motive was taken to aware the public and those women, who couldn’t do anything regarding the matter, that Cervical Cancer can be cured and that the Government is ready to take steps in this regard.
Poonam Pandey’s act of faking her own death due to cervical cancer, was the reason that the topic of Cervical Cancer is not yet taken seriously and is not talked enough about, according to her. Calling it a desperate and necessary intervention, Poonam Pandey staked her own fame and popularity to spread the message of the Government of India and its initiative in the fight against Cervical Cancer.
Poonam Pandey has officially apologized and accepted the hurt and tears caused by her and stated, “…Feel Free to express your frustration – I understand…”
She also mentioned the positive effect of this act of hers which had caused the term Cervical Cancer to occupy more than 500 headings in India in a single day. In spite of her being clear of her intentions and motives, she is currently facing a number of criticism and displeasing comments on social media and this act of hers is being labelled as a ‘Publicity Stunt’.
Even though there are controversies in Poonam Pandey’s intentions and her are actions are being regarded as both right and wrong, the fact that spreading awareness about Cervical Cancer was a success is fortunately true.
